I don’t have a lot to answer here, since I have never lived with anyone and don’t plan on moving in with anyone but my husband. There was a (brief) time where I considered it, but I had a negative view about marriage at the time. Since I’ve gotten over that hump, I feel even more strongly that a couple is best off not living together if marriage is the ultimate goal. I think that having to deal with the inconvenience of shlepping back and forth to each other’s houses is like a relationship workout. It tests your endurance, keeps the relationship fresh, gives you privacy, and allows you more time to think about whether you really want to be with this person. You can wind up in a bigger mess sometimes if you don’t want the person to be around anymore and you spend a lot of time wondering if/when you’re going to move out, or whether you’re going to tell the person to leave, etc. My cousin lived with her boyfriend for 8 years.
