However, my daughter and a couple of friends are going to rent his house, which is near the local university, in the fall of 2012. I suspect we’ll keep some of the duplicate items for her. As far as finances, i suspect we’ll have 3 accounts: A joint one for household expenses, and one for each of us for personal expenses (clothes, lunches, travel costs, etc.) since we both have to travel for work quite a bit. I plan to let him manage the money and just give me an allowance to cover costs for myself and my kids. He is much more frugal than I am (I think that’s a good thing). We plan to live on my income and bank his income from his Navy Reserve job for retirement/travel/vehicles. The goal is to pay off my house in 3-4 years, be debt free, and have about 80k in savings at that point, so we can live anywhere we want in the U.S. At that point, we’d like to move to Seattle/Portland or some other northwestern location.
